I have recently been working on keeping the shadow area medium to dark in value while still retaining a range of interesting colour. I was anxious to capture the cool darkness of the undercliff and the damp beach left by the low tide, contrasting with the patch of sunlight on the sand beyond.Undercliff at Studland

Welcome to blogging and what a great start! This painting is so beautiful. Where is Studland - it looks very West Coast?
ReplyDeleteThanks Barb for your kind comments. Studland is located across the entrance to Poole Harbour from Bournemouth, here in England. It`s reached by ferry, or you can drive around. Lovely beaches and a short walk away along the cliff top is the famous Old Harry Rocks, white chalk remnants of the cliffs, marching out to sea.
